How to get there:
To get to this trailhead may be called "the crux" of the ascent.
First, drive south-east on hwy. 4 (Autovia La Paz Oruro). Turn left in Konani.
Next, drive north-east and cross a high pass at 4730m along the Camino Caxata-Quime highway.
After a long descent you cross the river in the valley and ascend
a bit on the far side to reach route 25. Turn right here. The roads are all dirt and subject to
frequent earth and mud slides.
Continue on route 25 until the small village Yacupampa at location -16.89317, West67.00492.
The Google Map road ends here.
Continue on a narrow, local dirt road that will cross a number of side valleys. This road
serves a number of smaller villages. The road runs mostly in a steep slope subject to
landsides. Drive this road to location S16.79911, W66.91522.
A mountain farm road forks uphill and left. This road is rough, but may be driven by
a high clearance 4WD vehicle. Most likely, the road is mainly used by motorbikes.
There are people living on the high plateau above where there are many farm animals,
mainly sheep and cows.
When we were there, a big tree had fallen across the road. This tree could only be
removed with a saw. Thus, the road was blocked and could not be driven at this time.
Route:
A track showing our route is posted on Peakbagger by Adam Walker.
First, if the road cannot be driven, hike up the road to the farm area with many
buildings and even more sheep and cows. Continue to follow the road until you
reach the main crest, a big, very wide ridge that gradually ascents to the climbers right.
