How to get there:
This peak is south of the famous mountain Orizaba.
A good point of reference is the city of Tehuacan.
Route description:
First drive to a small, nice community located by 2 small
lakes, called San Bernardino Lagunas. This is about 20 kilometer
straight line north-east of Tehuacan, however access by road is from the
west.
Follow the road ´north on the east side of the lakes.
This road serves the antenna installation on the summit.
The road is pretty good, but a high clearance or 4WD vehicle is recommended.
Comments:
We were on our way back to Veracruz after s nice trip in the southern
part of Mexico, the Oaxaca province. This peak was an attractive extra
stop, as there is a very good view north across to Orizaba.
Heidi and I were there in December 1978, 45.5 years ago.
We left our hotel, Grand Hotel Mexico, after breakfast and drove all the
way to the summit. Arrival there at 1000.
A morning view of Orizaba is
likely best, clouds tend to accumulate in the afternoon.
After about a half hour stop to look at the view
and walk (easy) around the
antennas, we continued our drive to Veracruz. We had a flight to Cancun, connecting
to Colombia the next morning.
