How to get there:
The starting point for this peak is the large town of Arba Minch. It is possible
to fly here from Addis Ababa. The mountain road starts at location 6.02355, 37.54194,
keep left at this fork and start uphill. The road is pretty rough from the very beginning,
you need a sturdy 4WD. Continue to pick your way uphill to location 6.16710, 37.35247, elevation
near 3080 meter. This is the trailhead.
It takes about 2.5 hours to drive here from Arba Minch.
Route description:
Continue up a rather steep hill,
keep right, a road (wrong) forks left here.
Follow the big track as it first follows the ridge, then forks right.
This main track continues and makes the main crest, then contours (hikers right) around some local
tops before descending to cross the main valley (high crossing) to reach the lower slopes of
the mountain. You will not see the summit, it is behind several other summits. Contour right
of several summits to reach a final col before
the final ascent to the summit.
A track is posted
on Peakbagger.
Comments:
Ayu came along. We started at 0955 and arrived at the summit
1245. Leaving at 1300, we were back at 1520. I was quite surprised
to observe people living all across this area. In particular, a few huts
were established just a few meter below.
Our drive back to Arba Minch reached town just before sunset. On the way, we passed
through several smaller villages
with busy, colorful markets.
