How to get there:
From Yerevan, first drive past the two villages Garni and Goght, then up to the small village Geghard. Drive south-east to near location N40.15319, E44.80677. From here, you need a 4WD with good ground clearance. Continue north-east, then north, you should pass close to Dreamy Domes, some dome shaped buildings (on your right side), then take the best looking dirt track in order to connect (higher uphill) near location N40.16085, E44.81373. The route (driving) now heads generally north-east, the track is rough with alternating rocky and grass/dirt sections. We parked at location N40.22229, E44.93925, elevation near 3300 meter.
Route description:
A nice and easy trail connects this trailhead with the summit.
A track is posted on Peakbagger, but not at all needed for this climb.
Comments:
We had an extra day before our flights and this mountain seemed like an obvious target. The hike is short, but the drive is rather long (slow) and a 4WD like a Toyota Landcruiser or Hilux (truck) is needed. This hike is surprisingly popular and you are likely to see other people on the trail and/or near the trailhead. The ascent took about 30 minutes. There is a small crater with a nice, small lake just below. Good views all around. We descended back down to the car in about 20 minutes.
This was the last climb on my trip with David to this region. Big thanks are due for his good company and thoughtfulness. Always with a smile on his face!
