How to get there:
This mountain has a short and direct access from the city of Jimma.
From Jimma, drive uphill (paved road) to location N7.69732, E36.87005,
where a small, rougher road forks left and uphill. Continue on this
road to location 7.72669, 36.87521, elevation about 2120 meter. Shortly
before this, you have stayed left where the road serving the
antennas on a small hilltop, forks right. The suggested trailhead/parking is
a good place to park as there are people here (perhaps ask somebody to
watch your vehicle). One may drive a bit more, but there are no more
established locations before the road turns into a trail.
Route description:
The road ends and a big track (but not good for cars) continues.
You cross a small creek, then swing left and climb to the top of a
big ridge, ascending up on its right side as viewed when trekking.
The route then continues along this ridge, crosses a local high point
before descending very gently to a shallow col before a similarly
gentle ascent
to the ridge high point.
The summit area is a pretty large,
flat area mostly covered by grass.
A GPX track is posted on
Peakbagger.
Comments:
This was my last day in Ethiopia before the return flight, sort
of a reserve day in case of unforseen delays. I found two summits
close to Jimma with prominence exceeding 300 meter. It seemed
reasonable to spend the day exploring these.
Ayu picked me up at 0900, and we drove up to the trailhead. Actually,
we first drove to the end of the road, then decided to backtrack a bit
in order to find a good place to park.
Ayu wanted to come along<
and we walked to the summit in a little more
than 1.5 hours. A very nice walk indeed,
many locals on the same trail.
We stayed about 10 minutes at the summit before returning in about 1:15.
