Mount Matutum

How to get there:
The natural point of reference is the city General Santos. This city
has both domestic and international flight connections.
The trailhead is located near the end of a local mountain road serving
a small, local farming community, near location N6.34940, E125.04201, elevation
about 1040 meter. There is a basic accommodation located here.
Route description:
The normal route starts from the small farm community of Glandang. The trail climbs
gently across farmland, then enters the jungle and traverses quite bit (climbers right).
Subsequently, running more directly uphill with several steepish sections. Generally,
this trail becomes steeper as well
as more cumbersome the higher you get.
The summit area is fenced in (impressive to carry this material up here!). The peak has
vegetation all over and a rather limited view.
Comments / Trip report:
I did this climb with Rob and Deividas. The trip was organized by
Albert at Mtapoadventures, a small trekking company based in Davao.
We traveled from Davao to the trailhead in the afternoon the day before and
stayed in the accommodation at the trailhead. Starting quite early (logistics reasons),
we were walking already at 0315.
The trail got increasingly more complex as we approached the summit. Overall, our ascent time
was pretty good, 3:15 up. We waited for Deividas and generally enjoyed a good break at the summit
before returning to the obstacles, we headed back down after 1:30 hours of rest. The return hike
was not much easier, we branched more left at the lower part in order to be picked up
by our driver at a spot agreed earlier. Somehow, the authorities had decided to "close" this mountain,
thus we had an early start and returned back down in an area were we could keep a low profile.
