How to get there:
This mountain has a short and direct access from the city of Soto.
However, the road is
steep, rough and has some very sharp curves.
Dry conditions are needed and a sturdy 4WD vehicle.
We drove to location N06.89167, E037.77628, then decided to park
the car a little lower next to a local hut/house where a (local) woman
could take responsibiity for the car while we were hiking.
Route description:
One may follow trails all the way. There are a couple of variations.
The mountain has huts and agriculture
activities all over.
My return track is posted on Peakbagger.
Comments:
Today, my driver did a (much) better job getting our vehicle pretty
high on a rough road. We parked and a crowd gathered near us as often
happens. This time, however, they wanted to tell us that a (solo) tourist
had been attacked the day before. He was injured and people had assisted
him to the hospital in Soto.
This did not sound very good, however it soon became clear that such an
incident would not happen if we walked together with a local man.
This person was quickly identified and we set out following the road
uphill. We forked right onto a nice trail, then continued on various
connecting trails all the way to the summit.
Arriving at the summit after about 1:15, I was quite surprised to find
a temple with music playing on the very summit. My driver, Ayu, is Christian
Orthodox, the largest christian group in Ethiopia. He immediately identified
this temple as being orthodox.
We stayed and looked around in about 10 minutes, then descended a different
route back down the car in about 50 minutes.
