How to get there:
The easiest access to this peak is from the south. Locate the
small village Sao Raimundo da Pedra Menina. Drive north in order
to locate the park entrance. The red tape here was easy. A somewhat
rougher road continues to the trailhead with a building, parking and a small
campground. This place is called
Caparao Park Queimada House. This location
is S20.45797, W41.80913, elevation about 2190 meter. We drove a 2WD SUV with
medium ground clearance, the last part of the road was not any worse than
earlier sections. It had been raining all day before our arrival and the main
issue was a very slippery road surface.
Route description:
A fairly well marked trail connects this trailhead with the summit.
First, up along a broad ridge.
Higher up, nice slabs before the
route traverse a small hump on the ridge
connecting it to the final uphill.
The trail is about 4.5 kilometer one way and gains approximately 700 meter.
The summit is marked with a big cross,
another lower point has an antenna tower
and a statue.

We stayed at a very nice place named Hospedaria Capulus. From there, only a
short drive to the National Park gate. It had rained substantially and the
road was somewhat challenging to drive with a 2WD car since the wheels had
minimal traction.
Good weather and easy terrain.
We used about 1.5 hours each way, excluding a
longer break at the summit.
