How to get there:
The trailhead is near a small community, Santa Martha, location N18.34075, W94.89080, at about
1200 meter of elevation. We
started from a house belonging to the family.
This village is reached by driving north from Soteapan.
My contact (Alberto living in Soteapan) in the area was very
friendly and helpful. It is strongly advised to
contact him in advance. He may be reached on whatsapp: +52 1 921 252 1129.
Route description:
The route follows trails all the way, but the trail is somewhat more marginal when
ascending the final slopes. The first part of the route
runs through community (farm) land.
The route finishes on the highest ridge.
The highest point is among trees, however,
there is a pretty nice viewpoint extremely close.
Comments:
I did this climb with my friend Adam. I had made local arrangements via my contact.
He reserved a hotel in
Soteapan (even paid for it!).
We had a nice get together
at his house the evening before.
Dinner was prepared and served,
this welcome was really way beyond expectations.
The next morning we met early and started the hike
already around 0500. The ascent took 2:05 hours. He brought local food that was served
on the summit.
After about 45 minutes, we returned down in about the same time.
Thus, we were back around 1000, a total of 5 hours. We thanked our local contact
for his great hospitality and promised to send him a few messages from our next
couple of planned peaks.
