How to get there:
Driving E-6 from the south, a short while after crossing into Nordland, you drive by
the lake Majavatn. After this lake, fork right onto Hwy. 7336. After lake Øvre Fiplingvatnet,
fork right again in order to drive on the east (right) side of lake Nedre Fiplingvatnet.
Continue to the end of this lake. Cross a small bridge, then park as much off the road as
possible in the meeting spot immediately after this bridge on your right. Pull forward as far
as possible away from the bridge. This location is N65.38847, E013.64928, elevation about
390 meter.
Route:
First, ski along the forest road. When you reach about 525 meter of elevation, ski closer to
the main river and find a suitable place to cross, you will see that the terrain is more suitable
for skiing on the right hand side. Farther into the valley, you may start a gradual ascent, but
not more than being able to turn the ridge ahead. Once you are on the more gentle slope of the ridge,
the route basically follows this ridge as it curves around (left) eventually connecting with the
final summit ridge. The last summit (1494m) on this ridge, may be bypassed a bit on its right
(south) side. The summit is located on a pretty flat plateau.
Comments:
I stayed at the new, nice hotel in Hattfjelldal, a place that can be recommended.
Leaving early, I was ready to ski from the trailhead at
0755. The forecast was pretty nice, however, the actual weather turned out to
be mostly a white-out at higher elevations. I skied the farm road, then crossed the
small river at a very minimal snow bridge.
As I continued in very easy terrain up the valley,
the sun paid its last visit for the day.
I ascended the ridge and quickly entered the clouds. Progress was slow and I
arrived at the summit at 1255, so 5 hours up. I left after a brief rest. The lack
of visibility made the descent rather slow as well. Finally, at the last part of
the ridge, it was possible to make some reasonable turns before skiing back to
the river crossing. I was back at my car at 1530.
