Information:
How to get there:
From Ålesund, drive Hwy. 60 to Magerholm and take
the ferry across to Aursnes, serving the village of Sykkylve.
Just before Sykkylven, turn left and follow the road signed with
Ramstad. When arriving at a road-fork, keep right. The left fork
is signed for Ramstad. When hitting the road that goes south from Ramstad,
turn righ and drive approximately one more kilometer. Note the building
on your left, then, immediately a local hilltop of the road. Pull right
and park. This location is N62.39788, E006.80132, elevation a bit more than
200 meter. This is the trailhead.
Route description:
Head directly up the grass on the left side of the road. The trail will
become clear as it head uphill between the trees a bit up the slope.
Follow this trail uphill as it ascends staying on the right hand side of the
(dry) creek Årsetelva. You will arrive at the lake Årsetvatnet, 590 meter.
There is a red building and a small dam at this location. Go left and climb across
some low concrete, then follow the trail as it continues close
to the lake, on the
north side. Continue along the lake until you cross the small creek coming
from lake Svartevatnet (665m).
You will see the mountain ahead and up to your left.
Head left and find a good passage between the trees in order
to gain the ridge located east of lake Svartevatnet. Follow this ridge across a few local
humps, then turn left and ascend the slightly steeper ridge that comes down from
Ramstadvarden. At the top, turn a bit more left and ascend the final slope.
There is a nice cairn on the summit.
Comments:
I slept in the car at the trailhead, started out at 0730. It was dark,
but with a strong torch hiking up the trail was easy. The snow depth
was reasonable, no real problem to walk.
Daylight as I got to the lake, the route ahead looked ok. The snow depth increased
quite a lot as I got above 750 meter. Still nice, as I walked up the final
ridge, arriving at the cairn at 1030.
Good views and interesting November light.
I left at 1045, and walked
down the ridge and back to
the lake and dam in one hour. From there, 25 minutes
back down to the car.
