How to get there:
This mountain has easy access from the city of Bodrum. First, navigate to the street
location N37.05864, E027.39857, in Bodrum. Next, take the small road from here that
runs uphill. It turns into gravel higher up, but can be driven with an ordinary car.
Drive to a wide left bend with good parking on your right.
Park here, this is the
trailhead, location N37.06876, E027.40070, elevation near 245 meter.
Route description:
Walk a few meter along the road and find a stone staircase that marks
the beginning of the trail. Follow this trail, marked by paint, uphill.
You will soon see the peak up on your left. Continue to a col having
an interesting building (with water inside!).
The route turns 90 degrees
left here, it may be hard to see the trail markers, but just walk across the
rocky flat area and aim for the entrance to the small valley. The trail
will reappear there. Continue until you arrive at a new col, locate a small
white metal "flag" on a pole. The trail turns sharply left in the direction
of this marker. Next, the trail climbs towards the top of the mountain that
could be seen early on the hike. Note the many zig-zags marked with V-shaped
paint. The ascent is slightly steeper near the end, but well marked and not
difficult. On top of the ridge, the route now runs among rocks to gain the
highest point. There are a few antennas as well as
a concrete summit marker
on the short summit ridge. Comments:
Arriving in the first col, I noticed
a pretty large structure.
It looked like some kind of hut. I walked to it and looked in the door.
Quite surprising, just inside a staircase went down into a pool of water.
I left and continued my ascent, still puzzled.
The ascent took me 1:15 keeping a leisurely pace. Good views from the top.
I took a short break looking across to the lower Karadag.
It looked like a nice bonus and
I decided to make a small detour across there
from the col below. This report continues there.
