How to get there:
This summit has a very nice trailhead served by a forest road. From the mai road that
follows the coast, turn directly uphill at location N59.77187, E5.87590. This road ends
with a parking area at location N59.77809, E5.88090, elevation about 190 meter.
Route description:
A nice trail starts directly uphill from the trailhead. This trail runs uphill to
a hut called Oppigardbu (owner is Magne).
From this hut, the summit is only 110 meter
away, directly north-west.
Local people that we talked to, told us that the names on the map are incorrect. This summit
should be called Jonsåsen. This name is currently assigned to a slightly lower
top (south-east) that has a comletely different name.
Comments:
Harald and I were out bagging a few minor tops in the area. Near the end of our
trip Harald climbed Giskafjellet, then continued to this summit, while I had taken
the car around to the local trailhead, then climbed this summit from there. The idea
was to link up at the summit. However, when I reached this top, Harald still had
a considerable way to go. We therefore agreed that I would descend back down to
the car and prepare for departure in order to (hopefully) catch a good ferry
departure. This turned out to be a good plan, Harald realized that we might not
get the next ferry and tried running the last part downhill. We drove as fast
as possible and ended up getting to the ferry only 5 seconds before it departed.
The next ferry would run a full hour later.
Many thanks, "takk for turen" to Harald.
