Information:
How to get there:
This mountain is the highest peak on the island Huglo.
The main issue with going there is the need to take a ferry.
This ferry runs rather infrequently. Consult the schedule before
starting this trip.
When getting off the ferry at the Huglo island, follow the main road (south)
for 2.7 kilometer, then fork left. Continue until you find a fairly big area
where it is possible to park on your right hand side. This location is
N59.84908, E5.58698
Route description:
Walk back a few meter along the last curve on the road, then enter the
signed trail going right. Follow this trail to the summit.
The trail will first climb to a small col, from there you turn right,
the summit area is then straight ahead.
The summit has a large cairn
and good views in all directions.
Comments:
I had planned to do this hike on the previous Saturday.
On that day I was on the island Tysnes with most of the day
left. However, when I arrived at the ferry location, I discovered
that the wait would be more than 3 hours and I would not reach the
Huglo island before dark. If I had brought my torch light, the short
hikes could have been done, but without a light, I just had to
cancel my plan and head north to catch a ferry home from Våge.
Today, it was Monday and I left Bergen shortly after 0800 in order to
catch the 1115 ferry to Huglo. I arrived at the ferry with lots of time
to spare, but I had deliberately added some margins of safety, since this
would be the only ferry I could use this day.
The hike was short and pleasant despite pretty bad weather.
The summit area had gale winds. The hike took about 30 minutes up
and 25 minutes for the return.
