Information:
How to get there:
Drive from Bergen following signs for Stavanger (E-39) NB: the (old) road that runs
From Nestun
across Vallaheiane, then down to lake Kallandsvatnet. Just as you start downhill from
Vallaheiane, make a right at the first possible fork, the road is called Hatlestad Terasse.
Drive this road until it makes a sharp right turn, the continue uphill until you are close
to a small access road that goes sharply left. A small red sign is a good clue. You should
park along the main road at location N60:17.360, E005:22.754, elevation about 180 meter.
Route description:
Walk up the small side road and locate the proper trailhead as wooden steps climb
right just next to an information sign with map and instructions. Follow a very good
trail uphill until the crest of the hill. Turn left and hike more or less
along the crest. You will cross a fairly high point at
location N60:17.205, E005:22.252, elevation perhaps 276 meter.
Continue a short stretch along the trail to a trig. point.
This local summit is located at N60:17.119, E005:22.147, elevation 278 meter.
Comments:
I was out collecting small hills having at least 100 meter of prominence in the south
area of Bergen. Somehow, I confused Birkelandsfjellet, located at Vallaheiane, with
Birkelandsnipa located north in the Åsane area of Bergen.
I therfore thought that Birkelandsfjellet had at least 100 meter of prominence
and started out climbing it. Some pictures from this climb are enclosed below.
I subsequently left the trailhead for Hamrefjellet at 1355 and arrived at
the trig. point summit at 1410, before exploring
a bit around. I returned to my car at 1440. Hamrefjellet has a lot of trails, signs and
benches where one can rest and enjoy the views in various directions.
