How to get there:
One may hike up from Haugsdalen (steep trail), however, this report describes a nice ski route from Totland on the west side.
From Bergen, drive north on E-39, but turn left just before the 5km Eikefettunnelen. Continue along the coast to Totland, a signed road forks (uphill) right here. You will soon arrive at a self serve toll station. In 2025, NOK 30, pay by Vipps. Drive to the dam and turn left across a small bridge. Keep left and drive carefully on the forest road to a new fork with trail signs. One car may park here, the road going right crosses a creek and is only suitable for a tractor. This location is N60.83704, E5.40785, elevation 225 meter.
Route description:
A track (GPX) is posted on Peakbagger.com. First, follow the tractor road until it ends. The trail climbs up on your right here, before entering the forest. There are a few red markers that may help show the correct way. The trail is pretty visible on the ground, should be easy to follow. This trail serves the farm building Totlandssetra, elevation about 440 meter..
From here, climb the ridge on the right side of the valley, when facing uphill. The terrain is easy and one may ski as soon as there is sufficient snow. Ascend to some small lakes near 700 m of elevation, then cross over and descend to lake Glyvrevatnet, elevation 664 meter. Continue across the lake and enter a gully that narrows with the creek coming from lake 723 m higher up. Continue east, crossing a ridge at about 786 meter, then descend on the east side to about 750 meter. Finally, continue north-east, only gaining a little elevation to the base of the fairly steep and rocky peak. Leave your skis here and finish the trip with a short and easy scramble to the summit.
Comments:
I did this climb with my friend Eric. We left Bergen at 0800 and was parked at the trailhead shortly after 1000. The trail up to the summer farm Totlandssetra was quite nice and easy to follow. At this time of year, normally we should have good snow for skiing, but not this year. We continued uphill with our skis on the backpack until near 600 meter of elevation.
From there, conditions improved as we skied across to lake Glyvrevatnet, then through an interesting ravine, a big boulder blocked passage in a single spot, but easy to circumvent with skis in our hands. After crossing the small lake, I decided that the easiest option would be to cross over the ridge that blocked access to Blåfjellet. Finally, it came into view, revealing steep cliffs and no snow. An easy ski across, then a short scramble on foot to gain the summit. The time was 1345. We lingered about 15-20 minutes, Eric having some food and I taking some pictures. Not a single sign of wind, pretty perfect conditions. Today was Eric's 71st. birthday, quite a nice way to spend the day!
We soon headed back down and as expected, the return ski was substantially faster. Back at the car just before 1600. A nice drive home completed a good day in the outdoors.
