How to get there:
From Førde, take Hwy. 481 north to locate the left fork Brunenevegen. This
is a toll road, pay by Vipps, NOK 40 (in 2025). One should note that driving to the indicated
trailhead involves making a left turn and follow the longer (left) route with a final right
turn before traversing back (through several gates) to the parking area where the real
uphill begins. This location is N61.50086, E5.96791, elevation about 245 meter.
Route description:
Continue up the forest road to the first summer farm buildings. Ascend right here and
make the main, broad ridge. There is a cliff band a bit ahead, the easy route will
ascend this near its right end.
Continue to the summit marked by a small cairn.
A track is posted on Peakbagger.
Comments:
I climbed Blåfjellet almost 15 years ago. Last year,
with new Lidar data, it turned out that this was "the wrong peak", since Krunene is about
17 centimeter higher and therefore grabs the destinction of having more than 600 meter
of prominence. Clearly, when a convenient opportunity showed up, this peak needed a visit.
Pål J&oslosh;rgen and I were travelling home from Åndalsnes. With a late start we
decided to stop in Førde, climb this mountain and aim for a nice Sunday dinner in Bergen.
We stayed at Førde pensjonat, a nice place that can be recommended. Breakfast at 0800 (since it
was Sunday), then off to the trailhead. After passing 3 gates, we parked at the start of the
sustained uphill. An old sign indicated no more driving, we should possibly have asked when making a turn
a few minutes earlier. We had taken the wrong road and turned around at a house just below the trailhead.
The man looked out, as we explained our intention. He could possibly have OK'ed driving all the way up
to the summer farm houses, as it turned out the road going up was pretty smooth, but somewhat loose.
A 4WD car would most likely have no problem.
We parked at the beginning of the uphill forest road, the hike from there to the
summit took 2 hours.
We checked out a few almost equally high
points, but concluded that the cairn built recently (by Otto and his friends) was
indeed at the correct location.
The descent took about 1:50, including a slight detour as we did not go directly
to the route we had ascended in order to avoid the steeper cliffs.
Thanks to Pål for good company both in Romsdalen and Førde.
