How to get there:
Drive from Bergen towards Voss along E-16.
In Evanger, turn left across the narrow bridge, and follow
Hwy. 5410 north to Nesheim in Eksingedalen. Turn right and continue
to the last place called Gullbrå. Just before the houses, a road
cross the river (going right). this road serves the dam at the
Grøndalsvatnet lake. The distance from this bridge to the
lake is 4 kilometer. In summer, you may drive to the lake, in winter
you may have to ski this road.
A good route to the peak starts near the dam where this access road ends.
Route:
From the dam (south side of lake Grøndalsvatnet) head more or less
directly towards the broad saddle south of the summit, connecting to
point 1192 m. Towards the end, turn more north (right) and arrive at the nicely
built, big summit cairn. Comments:
I did this trip with my friend Eric. We drove fro Bergen
around 0800, then wasted some time since we drove the car
(big mistake) a bit too far along the snow covered access
road. After having "rescued" the car, we skied up the road
then cut across the col named Ulvaskar, thinking this
would be a short-cut to the mountain. However, the connecting
terrain is not skier friendly and one needs to descend almost
back down to the lake before getting onto the proper hillside.
We arrived at the summit about 2:20 after leaving the car. Nice views
all around. The mountains closer to Voss had sunshine, while
we, unfortunately, had overcast and "flat light" making the skiing
back down slightly harder. The snow was good and we skied back
across the lake, then down the access road. Back at the car in slightly
less than one hour, shortly before 1500.
